Moving To Make Your Life Better

Tips For Preparing Your Belongings For A Moving Company

Moving companies make the process of shipping your belongings to a new home much easier, providing services from packing to hauling. Here are some preparations you can make before the movers arrive so that your belongings are organized and your move more efficient.

Purge Unused Items

Moving to a new house or apartment is a perfect time to sort through everything and get rid of items you don't need or use anymore. As added encouragement, remember that any items you donate, gift, or recycle save you the cost and time it would take to move them to your new place.

Rather than tackling everything at once, choose one room or even one closet, cupboard, or drawer to sort through at a time. Keep three boxes labeled "Donate," "Sell," and "Trash" so you can toss items in as you find them. When one box is full, take it to its designated new home and start again.

Organize Remaining Belongings

Many moving companies will offer packing services in addition to actually shipping items to your new home. They will have an efficient system in place to pack and label boxes as quickly as possible while making sure items will not be broken or lost.

Even so, you can help by making sure your belongings are organized prior to being packed so that unpacking does not become a game of lost and found. Movers will pack by room, so be sure items are in the same room in your old home as you want them in the new home.

You can also label shelves or closets to designate where you would ultimately like them to end up. This may help especially if there are rooms in your new home that do not correspond with a particular space in your old home or vice versa.

Whatever organizing and labeling you can do before the movers show up will make moving day faster and less stressful for everyone involved. Local moving companies are skilled at working together as a team and will appreciate being able to do their job as efficiently as possible.

Set Aside Anything You Need During the Move

Depending on how far you need to travel, you may need to set aside personal items and clothing that you'll need during your move. If you can set all of these items aside and either verbally communicate or label them to not be boxed up on moving day, you'll avoid missing anything essential that you needed available after the movers leave.

Consider others in your home such as children or pets and what they might need to make the move comfortable, too. The last thing you want is to discover that a favorite blanket or stuffed animal is unreachable in the back of a moving truck for the duration of your travels. Pack these items separately so you know exactly where they are when they're wanted.
